“I have an amazing scheme whereby I can guarantee that I can beat a grandmaster at chess.”

Can you guess what my scheme involves?

The wedding happened more or less all to plan, thanks to everybody who came, we really appreciated it.

This is all pretty boring, if you were there you probably already know what happened

The escape velocity of a body is the projectile velocity required in the absence of friction for a body to not fall back towards the source body under the force of gravity, correct?

The event horizon of a black hole is defined as the point at which the escape velocity equals the speed of light, right?

And _everybody_ knows that once you go past the event horizon of a black hole you can’t escape, right?

But if escape velocity is simply the balistic velocity required for escape, what if you are accelerating under your own power? I mean rockets leaving earths orbit don’t have to reach escape velocity, they can maintain an aribitrary velocity so long as it is positive?
