The Hob

Saturday, May 28th, 2005

I’ve been going to the Hobgoblin in Bath for the last 6 years, as sad as it is to “stand up for a pub” I feel compelled to say something.

The pub has had three landlords in the time I’ve been going there and I have to say that the the current landlords, as well as being wonderfuly nice people are the best the pub has had in that time. Unfortunately a number of factors (many of which I feel can be attributed to the poor management of the previous landlord) have led to the possibility of current landlords (who have a three month old baby) facing eviction.

They care a lot about beer, they care about their customers and they care about their staff, and because of this I care about them…

lelitas (who works there) is organising an online petition to send to the owners and the local rag ran article about it this morning.

Life? Don’t talk to me about life…

We found a flat (we are awaiting approval from the letting agency) Its on St. James’s Square and its quite big, 1 medium size spare bedroom, kitchen, storage area, and a really funky bedroom/livingroom gallery thing (so the bedroom is on the upper floor, and the livingroom is below, and there is a huge 10 foot window with a small atrium type thing which opens onto both. Only down side is that there isnt anywhere to fit a washing machine, so launderettes it is.

Our monitor has died, so 561 has no PC to work on at home, if anybody has one spare we would love you forever.

UPDATE: M says she won’t love you like that, but i’m still open to suggestion.

New screen, new top case, new AC adapter (which is smaller than the last one, yay ) engineer said I should get a new keybord before the warranty runs out.

So far this laptop has had:
3 screens
2 keyboards
2 AC adapters
3 batteries

I must say i am getting my warranties worth.. .

The engineer told me he spent most of the time he didn’t spend replacing motherboards with dodgy capacitors replacing D-series screens (which thanks to the dell disc logo thing on the back always get buggered).

Episode III

Sunday, May 22nd, 2005

We saw episode III on friday and i must say i was dissapointed, almost certainly because I had been interpretting other peoples diagnoses of it being “better than episides I and II” (an assertion which i’m currently questioning) as “not god awful” which i think on balance it really was.

Funnily enough i find myself agreeing whole-heartedly with Peter Bradshaw’s review (561 will probably be the first to tell you that a sentence including his name coming from my mouth is typically proceeded by a tirade which is best ignored)
and other dull things

Urgent news

George Lucas confesses he is not a God.

On newsnight tonight Mark Lawson propsed to George Lucas that [in the eyes of his fans] he was a god, and after a brief pause George revealed that actually he wasn’t a god and that instead he was in all probability more like [David] Beckham, who actually on second thoughts was a bit like a god….

Sorry but.

Everybody should go to Tsunami countries on holiday.

The BBC is using phrases like: “Algorithms of 1s and 0s are used to encrypt data, making it secure” in their taglines.

Today, I had ice cream and it was good.
